Design [Overflow]

Prepare for a long, picture-filled post. It's been a while since I've posted anything from school, and I've got two a few completed designs, plus a little project of my own....let's start with that.

So I have this lovely little notebook necklace, made with leather and handmade paper. It's soo purdy. I decided that I couldn't leave this notebook blank, so I decided to fill it with all manner of things--inspiring quotes, cute pictures, stickers, whatever I wanted. Then I decided it would be even better to have everyone else fill it too! So my goal is to get all the people I know and love to write on a page in this book, or make a little doodle. A heartfelt message, an inspiring quote, a unique drawing, whatever! (As long as it's appropriate. I want to be able to show it to everyone). So far I've had Mel, Sarah, Brit, Jill, and Lynch write in it.
So be warned now, I want everyone to write in it. Start thinking about what you're going to put in it!!!

This was a project for Illustration. We had to come up with a mural for the Visions art exhibition (last year we did a poster as an assignment in a different class). I wasn't really super inspired...so I ended up taking a picture of my pillowcase and basically copying that. I like it for what it is, but it's not exactly original artwork. If I had the energy I could definitely rework it and make it more my own...but we'll see. I didn't aim for it to be a portfolio requirement or anything.

For Publication design we had to redesign a book cover....can you guess what I chose?

The image on this one was inspired from a promotional shot for the movie (I traced it and simplified it). This still needs work, but it wasn't what I went with for the final, so who knows if I'll ever edit it.

Another idea that I didn't finish. The blurry image on the front is a geisha. Some people liked it and others were confused by the fractured image. I didn't end up showing it in class. Again, this needs more work.

This is the image I went with (of course the file saved all warped, and last time it did that I had a large file size, so I think JPEG format just hates my large files. Anyway, it's the same shape as the other two) and my idea behind this one was to target teenage girls. The texture in the background is paper that I have. The geisha image isn't completely my own, it was inspired by an image I saw online, so I need to redo that before I would consider putting this in my portfolio. Goldstein said that my fonts could use a little work, but other than that it's a very good piece and realistic.
